Compositing Artist

Hello!

My name is Emma and I am an Associate Compositor at Harbor Picture Company. I am also an alumni from the Savannah College of Art and Design, where I earned my BFA in Visual Effects. My passion lies in Compositing, while I also like to get my hands on lighting and look-dev.

Over the last 2 years, I had some exciting experiences in collaboration and networking within VFX. In 2023, I was a part of WIA Mentorship Circle "Improving Your Understanding of Digital Lighting" with ILM Mentor Christy Page. Within this circle, we met weekly to analyze and dissect lighting within shots, did lighting exercises and received valuable feedback among the group, learned lighting in Katana, and discussed strategies surrounding networking and landing a job. Within this incredible group of artists, I was also able to collaborate with other mentees and progress my knowledge in lighting with Unreal Engine.

Within my time at SCAD, I was a part of 3 mentored collaborations with Harbor Picture Company, Powerhouse VFX, and The Mill. Within each of these 10-week mentored collaborations, I worked together with a team of 4-5 people in a simulated real world production environment to create a commercial or short story following the company's pitch. More in depth information about these collaborations are posted on my blog page here!

During the summer of 2023, I had the exciting experience of Interning as a Compositor at Cadence Effects in New York! Within my time at Cadence, I was immediately thrown into working on shots for tv and film while learning the most effective ways to composite. Organized hand-offs, roto, tracking, and applying dailies feedback through shotgrid were key factors learned from this experience.

I grew up in Mendham, New Jersey and have a background in studying the fine-arts, my favorite medium being oil painting. During my artistic upbringing with the fine arts, I had the privilege of illustrating the cover of Yoga Therapy Today's Spring 2020 Issue and illustrating for a children's book "Come Meditate With Me". My Pen and Ink drawing, "Withered Beauty" was selected to be displayed in the 2019 Congressional Art Show, as well as it's counter-part "Natural Beauty" being accepted into the "Fresh Perspectives" juried high school art exhibition in 2019. In 2018, I received 1st and 3rd place in acrylic painting in the highly selective Blackwell Street Juried Art Exhibit at the Atrium Gallery. Concluding my high school education in 2020, I received the Eugenie Coladarci Arts Scholarship from Morris Arts.

With a background in fine arts, I was excited to pivot my education into a medium that I've admired through my childhood in various movies and television: Visual Effects. I first began learning Maya in 2019 while taking weekly classes at SVA. When I began my education at SCAD and learned more about the VFX program, I was positive this was my future and a way for me to use my artistic eye in an exciting medium and ever-evolving industry.
